Obama’s first interview since being elected. Also the first time I’ve seen less buzz-speak, more real questions and answers. One of my favorite quotes is part of Obama’s observation on our energy problems:
This has been our pattern: we go from shock to trance. Oil prices go up, gas prices at the pump go up, everybody goes into a flurry of activity. And then the prices go back down, and suddenly we act like it’s not important, we start filling up our SUVs again, and we never make any progress. […] Now is the time to break it.
Obama isn’t kidding. According to Autoblog, $4 per gallon gas prices caused truck sales to drop below 10 percent of US vehicle sales in May and June, and SUVs were down to 1.9 percent of sales. Now that gas prices are back down around an average of $2.78 per gallon, trucks went back up to 14.1 percent, and SUVs are at 2.5. This country’s vehicle buyers have the attention span of a 6 year-old on his first trip to Disney World.
